Using a simulated burrow environment, we investigated the behavioural rules of coordinated workload for soil distribution in a eusocial mammal, the naked mole-rat (Heterocephalus glaber). We tested two predictions regarding a distinct role of the queen, a socially dominant individual in the caste system: the presence of a queen would increase the workload of other caste individuals, and the cues by a queen would affect the soil distribution. In experiment 1, we placed four individuals of various castes from the same colony into an experimental burrow. Workers exhibited the highest frequency of workload compared to other castes. The presence of a queen activated the workload by other individuals. Individuals showed a consistent workload in a particular direction so as to bias the soil distribution. These results suggest that individuals have a consensus on soil distribution and that the queen plays a distinct role. In experiment 2, we placed the odour of a queen in one of four cells and observed its effect on other individuals’ workload and soil distribution. Relative to other cells, individuals frequently dug in the queen cell so the amount of soil in the queen cell decreased. These results suggest that queen odour is an important cue in coordinated workload and soil distribution in this species.","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_10001_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"Public Library of Science"}]},"item_10001_relation_14":{"attribute_name":"DOI","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_name":[{"subitem_relation_name_text":"10.1371/journal.pone.0044584"}],"subitem_relation_type":"isIdenticalTo","subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"https://doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0044584 ","subitem_relation_type_select":"DOI"}}]},"item_10001_relation_17":{"attribute_name":"関連サイト","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_relation_name":[{"subitem_relation_name_text":"Copyright"}],"subitem_relation_type_id":{"subitem_relation_type_id_text":"http://www.plos.org/about/open-access/license/","subitem_relation_type_select":"URI"}}]},"item_10001_rights_15":{"attribute_name":"権利","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_rights":"© Kutsukake et al."}]},"item_10001_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"19326203","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_10001_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"KUTSUKAKE, Nobuyuki"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"350","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"INADA, Masayuki"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"779","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"SAKAMOTO, Shinsuke H"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"703","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"OKANOYA, Kazuo"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{"nameIdentifier":"780","nameIdentifierScheme":"WEKO"}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2014-03-11"}],"displaytype":"simple","filename":"fetchObject.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"471.8 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"fetchObject","url":"https://ir.soken.ac.jp/record/3307/files/fetchObject.pdf"},"version_id":"5451d6d8-61bf-4779-82df-314877642374"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"A Distinct Role of the Queen in Coordinated Workload and Soil Distribution in Eusocial Naked Mole-Rats","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"A Distinct Role of the Queen in Coordinated Workload and Soil Distribution in Eusocial Naked Mole-Rats"},{"subitem_title":"A Distinct Role of the Queen in Coordinated Workload and Soil Distribution in Eusocial Naked Mole-Rats","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"10001","owner":"21","path":["115","277"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2012-12-19"},"publish_date":"2012-12-19","publish_status":"0","recid":"3307","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["A Distinct Role of the Queen in Coordinated Workload and Soil Distribution in Eusocial Naked Mole-Rats"],"weko_creator_id":"21","weko_shared_id":21},"updated":"2023-06-20T14:23:22.859855+00:00"}
