The FFAG accelerator magnet is<br /> required to have a nonlinear magnetic field that increases with <i>k</i>-th power of<br /> the orbit radius, where <i>k</i> is the field index in the accelerator. The required<br /> nonlinear magnetic field has been investigated with combined function coils,<br /> which consist of a large elliptical aperture, designed by using a computer<br /> code that was specifically developed for this purpose. It has been under-<br />stood from tracking that the integrated magnetic field along the beam path<br /> is the important parameter to be optimized. The field quality was evaluated<br /> with a particle trajectory simulation in which a particle could circulate well<br /> with stable tune. A prototype coil has been successfully developed by using<br /> a 6-axis CNC winding machine.
